Teach your way to wealth

If you don’t realize how you can teach your way to wealth, listen up!

While most people know that they can create generational wealth, they grind their teeth because they can’t tell which business venture can earn them passive income while they sleep.

Imagine spending time to dispense  knowledge on a specific topic and then offering it to people who are interested, in exchange for a small fee. And best of all is that you can sell the same course over and over, earning while you sleep, eat, work, etc.

Who Can Teach an Online Course?

If you spend any time on the internet, you have to have heard the ‘ online course gurus’ telling you that you have to be an expert to offer knowledge to people – that’s the world’s biggest lie if you ask me. Look, everyone has a unique skill – whether an expert or an average Joe; at least you have something to offer to tons of people to impact their lives.

The gurus hate competition and are therefore scaring you away. Don’t develop cold feet. In a nutshell, everyone can create an online course; whether you have a degree or not. Therefore, next time someone tells you that you need to be an expert to create an online course, look him in the eye and tell them ‘you’ve got this.’

What's first for online courses?

If you’ve decided that it’s time to make more passive income, online courses will be your cup of tea. Getting started isn’t as hard as one tends to think. You only need to put up your ideas together, organize them so that they take the structure of a typical course. Don’t forget that your students are adults. They are paying good money. Make sure you over-deliver in your course.

Come up with an idea you’d want to wrap up into a course

  • Research the idea and see if it’s profitable
  • Develop a course outline or curriculum (modules and lectures)
  • Create your course; whether it’s in video format or text-based format.
  • Host or publish your course content in any of the course hosting platforms
  • Set your prices; whether you want students to make payments in installments or one-time payments.
  • Launch your course!
You might want to consider using your own platform to launch your course as well. See this article on Why you absolutely need a website.

Choose the right platform

Tons of people are not good decision makers and as such, may end up choosing the wrong course hosting platforms. But that shouldn’t be the case. You have a couple of platforms to choose from. Decide wisely! Depending on the type of course you want to create, the budget you have, the purpose of your class, you should be able to make the right decision.

For example, if you might want to offer a technical course. You might be teaching students how to start their coding career and learn the coding languages such as HTML, PHP, and CSS. For this you’ll need to do videos, which means you might use Udemy.   Here’s another scenario. You want to teach the basics of freelance writing. This requires text-based content. In this case, you’ll need to side with a platform such as Teachable.

Teachable

If you hate facing the camera like me, maybe creating text-based content will be your cup of tea and Teachable is the best course platform.

Teachable allows you to add your course materials in an organized manner manually, and it’s so simple – even if you don’t have any publishing experience. Additionally, Teachable takes the responsibility of collecting your payments such that no one joins your course without paying.

The best of all is that you’re publishing your course in a platform that attracts millions of students. At least a student could land on your course mistakenly if he or she were looking for other courses and even end up purchasing it.

Alternative Platforms

Don’t think the online platform is best for you?

Maybe it’s because you hate the fact that online course platforms always want to benefit from your hard work by earning a commission. Or, you mind waiting for a couple of months before the platforms can release your payments – which is a risk because they give a 30-day money back guarantee.

So, you could end up taking losses if students decide to ask for a refund. But the question is, what should you do if you’re scared of all these? Well, you have the option to host your courses on your site. So, instead of hosting all your courses on a course platform, you do the task by yourself using specific WordPress plugins.

Additionally, you can also hire a web developer to create an e-commerce site to handle all the tasks. The challenge with hosting courses on your site is that you’ll need assistance almost every time, and you’ll spend thousands of dollars paying web designers.

Don’t forget the other nifty inventions like youtube and email, which can also be handy places to host your courses. Youtube recently created paid members only channels that you can offer to your prospective students…at a price of course.

Finally

Don’t just let your guard down yet. There’s still more to do.

The fact that you have created a course, set a price, and published your course on a popular course platform don’t mean you’ll be rich overnight. There’s a much bigger role awaiting you – marketing your course to attract students to purchase it. It could be through social media platforms like Facebook, or your mailing list. Set it up and watch the passive profits roll in.
